We recently met with Sustrans Scotland and East Lothian Council to discuss our campaign for a safe link between Gullane and Drem.
Here's a short summary of the main points:
In November, 2020, the council applied for £15,000 from Sustrans Scotland's Places for Everyone fund. This money is to prepare design options for the Drem section – the 100 metre stretch entering the village from the north. A final decision on the application will be made by Sustrans in September and we remain optimistic about this funding occurring.
The council and Sustrans representatives made clear that this would be just the first step on a multiple stage process that as outlined to us in the meeting would mean a best possible scenario of physical work not starting on the path for "years", possibly in 2024.
Considering our campaign started in 2004 we were shocked by this timescale, especially in light of the recognised climate emergency and need to act fast. We will be in contact with council leaders to ask them to provide the political leadership to compress this timescale.
We will keep you posted on further developments.
