Paths for all

Updated: Apr 5, 2021

The plan to have a good walking and cycling path from Gullane to Drem is really important to us. We are retired and we love the opportunities for walking along the East Lothian coast and in the wonderful countryside; and we are big users of public transport.

The bus service is good but a path which would allow us to cycle or walk safely to the rail station at Drem would make the rail system much more accessible.

We moved two years ago to one of the new developments at the east end of the village – near the planned starting point of the pathway - and we see how the new houses are bringing in people of all ages and stages in life including many families with young children.

The pandemic has shown us all the value of getting out and about in our local area and people will still want to make the most of what we have here once the times are more normal. For those who have to travel regularly to work, having the chance to walk or cycle safely to a station would be a real advantage.

So we think the plan for a path is a really good opportunity to link the growing number of Gullane residents into the walking, cycling and public transport networks of East Lothian. This will be great for our health and it responds to the concern we all have for the environment.
